Moms love Bikram yoga

-

MANILA, Philippines - Motherhood is a 24/7 job, but no matter how busy a mom’s life is, it is important that they give themselves time to relax and unwind. Take, for instance, moms-on-the-go Holly Wendt, Cathy Castañeda and Kaye Garcia, for whom regular Bikram yoga practice has become “me” time. Bikram yoga is a total body workout and a form of relaxation for busy people like moms practiced inside a heated studio, with a temperature of approximately 40 degrees Celsius that can make one lose between 500 and 1,250 calories. Each class runs exactly 90 minutes and consists of a series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises.

“Bikram yoga is good for moms because yoga is about balance, which they need in their busy lives,” says Ginger Diaz, studio director of Bikram Yoga Alabang. “Because they’re focused on taking care of the family, they tend to forget paying attention to themselves.”

Holly and Cathy agree that regular practice has led to a more positive mindset. Kaye has also improved her fitness level, and she’s realized that her primary goal is being healthy. “I’ve lost some weight and my clothes fit better but the most important benefit is being healthy. Health is, indeed, the most important advantage of Bikram yoga,” she says.
