Innovative Teachers Leadership Awards winners named

-

MANILA, Philippines - With the theme “Motivating Learners through ICT,” Microsoft Philippines, through its Partners in Learning initiative, recently announced the winners of its 6th Innovative Teachers Leadership Awards (ITLA) and held the first Innovative Education Forum at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

And the top three winners in this year’s ITLA are: Felix Bunagan of Makati City High School for his project “Fun with Newton,” Blecyrezza Piluden of the Baguio City National High School for her “The Film Festival,” and Glendale Lamiseria of Dulag National High School for her “Tendencies for a Cause” project.

“We believe that Filipino educators have the skill and passion to mold the minds of the young, and the winners have proven this. We hope that when you get back to your respective schools, you will continue your admirable accomplishments and help teach the minds of these young teachers. You are the living inspiration to these children,” says Arcy Bartolome, public sector director, Microsoft Philippines.

The three teachers will represent the country at the 7th Regional Innovative Education Forum in Thailand on March 9-11. Microsoft’s ITLA is an annual awarding event that recognizes the outstanding efforts of the top 10 public elementary and secondary school teachers who have gainfully integrated technology into the children’s curriculum and, at the same time, have been able to impact them to learn and enjoy education.

Meanwhile, the Innovative Education Forum is an event geared towards bringing the Filipino students’ learning experience to a higher level by integrating technology to education and introducing relevant teaching methods.

Present during the two-day event were Usec. Yolanda Quijano, undersecretary, programs and projects, Department of Education (DepEd); Efren Peñaflorida, CNN 2009 Hero of the Year; Dr. Sherlita Daguisonan, awardee, 1st Innovative Teachers Leadership Awards 2004; Felicia Brown, regional academic program manager; Arcy Bartolome, public sector director, Microsoft Philippines; Dondi Mapa, national technology officer, Microsoft Philippines; and Leeanne Lambino-Nuguid, academic program manager, Microsoft Philippines, among others.
