Plant sterols in milk lower cholesterol levels

MANILA, Philippines - CVD, commonly known as heart ailment, has been the leading cause of death in the Philippines. It is caused by a combination of several factors, the major culprit being our lifestyle. Thus, public health initiatives have focused on managing CVD by encouraging people to keep a healthy diet, avoid smoking, control their blood pressure, lower their blood cholesterol, exercise regularly and, if they are diabetic, maintain good control of their blood glucose. High blood cholesterol, which may result in a build-up over time, is one of the leading risk factors that cause heart disease.

The cholesterol-lowering properties of plant sterols have been proven through many years of research. The good news is that plant sterols can now also be found in adult milk — Nesvita Pro-Heart, the only high-calcium milk that contains Acticol, a natural plant sterol that helps lower cholesterol levels. The Acticol in Nesvita Pro-Heart is clinically-proven to lower bad cholesterol by as much as seven percent in 30 days, coupled with proper diet and exercise.

“Apart from Acticol, Nesvita Pro-Heart contains omega 3 and 6, essential fatty acids important for human health. Based on studies, these also help prevent heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels.” says Trina Abola-Neri, consumer marketing manager for Nesvita.
