MANILA, Philippines - In its thrust to provide patients with reliable and actionable health information, The Medical City (TMC) hosted the fourth event in its Guilt-Free Gourmet (GFG) series at Alimall in Cubao, Quezon City. Dubbed “Busting the Big C,” the event included cooking demonstrations on delicious cancer-curbing cuisine by Del Monte’s chef Francis Urn, as well as discussions and audience Q&As on cancer prevention, facilitated by TMC Cancer Center director Dr. Manuel Francisco T. Roxas, TMC breast surgeon Dr. Aldine A. Basa, and TMC nutritionist Caroline Q. Hernandez. The show was hosted by Dr. Rolando A. Balburias, consultant director of TMC’s Center for Wellness and Aesthetics, and celebrity fitness guru Jackie Lou Blanco.
“Committing to a proper diet is an important aspect of cancer prevention,” says Dr. Roxas. “What you put into your body every day spells the difference between living a healthy life and having this life hindered by disease. Through the GFG series, The Medical City can better spread the message that conditions as dire as cancer can be avoided if you take active responsibility for your own health.”
In addition to sampling the featured dishes, participants were offered free medical services, including colorectal screening, breast examinations, blood pressure checks, BMI counseling, and nutritional consultation. Information materials and other promotional items were given to registrants, and special prizes were awarded to raffle winners.
Aligned with TMC’s patient-partnership philosophy, where physicians and patients are viewed as equal partners in the journey to health and wellness, TMC’s GFG series aims to empower the public with health education so they can better engage their doctors in determining the best health strategy for their needs. The series is co-presented by Del Monte Philippines.
