Asian Hospital showcases advanced dental care

MANILA, Philippines - In its staunch commitment to the continuing dental education of dental professionals, the Asian Hospital and Medical Center recently held a multiple live surgery on Intraosseus dental implants at the Conference Facility Unit of the Asian Hospital.

This is not the first time that a live surgery was held on dental health care as the Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Department of Dental Medicine conducted the very first one three years ago, which focused on oral and maxillofacial surgery. This year, Asian Hospital and Medical Center decided to make oral implants the focal point of live surgery to highlight their role as an important facet in the scientific program for dental care.

Oral or dental implants are the replacement of tooth roots that provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth, which are made to match natural teeth. They provide a cutting-edge treatment for people with missing teeth, complementing standard treatment options like bridges and dentures.

“This live dental surgery is an opportune time to showcase advanced dental care through oral implants and state-of-the-art dental equipment at Asian Hospital and most importantly, to display the updated training and knowledge from Asian Hospital’s pool of dental experts. This is to ensure that dental practitioners in the Philippines receive the latest in dental care that they in turn will pass on to their patients,” says Dr. Hermogenes Villareal, oral surgeon and implantologist and chairman of the Department of Dental Medicine of the Asian Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Villareal also adds that the live dental surgery is also a preview of what local delegates could expect from the 33rd Asia-Pacific Dental Congress to be held here in the Philippines on May 1 to 6, 2011. Dr. Villareal is the general chairman of the local organizing committee of the Asia Pacific Dental Congress (APDC 2011) and the president of the Asia Pacific Dental Federation in 2011. This Congress will also zero in on the future of dentistry with the theme “Advancing the Pinnacles of Dental Health Care.”

Organized by the Department of Dental Medicine and the Philippine Academy of Implant Dentistry headed by Dr. Carlos Buendia, three live surgeries were conducted: immediate implant placement by Dr. Emma Natividad; multiple implant placements by Dr. Daniel Samaniego; sinus life with bone grafting procedure and implant placement done simultaneously by Drs. Roberto Pangan and Sherwin Villareal. From simple single unit immediate implant placement to multiple dental implant placements with sinus lift and bone augmentation at the posterior maxillary region, the live surgeries showcased only state-of-the-art CT scan, dental apparatus, implant systems, and medical facilities.
