A place for healing and pampering, too
MANILA, Philippines - Why fix it if it ain’t broke?” is a mindset that can be dangerous for one’s health. Just because we think we are in tip-top health doesn’t mean we are. By failing to see our physician for checkups, we are unable to quell a medical condition at its onset, or before symptoms of illnesses manifest. Undoubtedly, it is always best to visit the doctor at regular intervals to help ensure that we remain within optimum health conditions all the time. It is a regrettable fact, but chances are, our cars go in for preventive maintenance more regularly than we undergo medical examinations.
“The mood in a hospital can be downright depressing for some people, so they pass up on regular visits,” says Carmie de Leon, vice president for sales and marketing of Healthway Medical. “Our company’s network of clinics in the malls offers a unique and comfortable one-stop-shop setting where the services of experienced doctors are complemented with complete diagnostic and laboratory facilities.”
Apart from comfortable lounges without the cold and impersonal feel of hospitals, she adds that Healthway’s aim is for “total customer satisfaction.” The company aims for quality care in all six clinics located in the country’s leading malls where they “provide premium medical attention and service plus quality hygienic medical procedures without the risk of hospital-borne infections.”
To make checkups something to look forward to, Healthway recently partnered with Nurture Spa Village, which was recently listed by CNN as one of “28 Relaxing Spas in Asia” and is included as among the “Top 7 Spas in the Philippines.”
The program is called HealthCheq Gold where, after an executive checkup at any of the Healthway clinics, the client is chauffeured to the Nurture Spa Village in Tagaytay for a rejuvenating wellness experience. “This is an innovative effort on the part of Healthway to integrate conventional medicine with wellness and alternative healing,” explains de Leon. “It will make checkups more attractive and acceptable to more people.”
Five health and nurture packages are available. These include HealthCheq Him/Her which includes laboratory and imaging studies, dental services, special examinations (Treadmill Stress Test, resting echocardiogram, 2D Echo with Doppler Study, Pap smear for women), and an overnight stay with choice of body scrub or acupuncture and full body massage at the Nurture Spa; HealthCheq Couples A which is ideal for new couples and will include tests to detect infectious diseases, fertility and reproductive issues or genetic conditions as well as lifestyle counseling, massages and spa treatments; HealthCheq Couples B, an executive checkup/ pampering package; Healthcheq Gold Dental; and HealthCheq Gold Beauty with dermatology consultations, oxy-rejuvenating facial, derma fillers, and body sculpting with the requisite spa treatments. Packages can also be customized to address the specific needs of individual or corporate clients.
“Health is a personal decision and we want to make it a choice,” agrees internationally licensed therapist Cathy Turvill, who, with her husband Dr. Mike Turvill, owns the Nurture Spa Village . “Making the first step towards health should be made as attractive, convenient, and affordable as possible.” She cites studies made by the Mayo Clinic that confirm the benefits of massage for stress relief, managing anxiety and depression, and relieving pain and stiffness. Although more studies need to be made, massage has been shown to improve blood pressure control, promote infant growth, boost immunity, and aid cancer treatment.
Furthermore, Turvill explains that Nurture Spa Village operates to address the SENSES mode where S is stress management, E equals exercise, N is nutrition, S is for social harmony, E is education, and S stands for spiritual well-being. Natural healing and pampering packages also include digital computerized health scans and Qi breathing exercises. Likewise, what makes Nurture Spa Village unique is that it embraces the concept of ecotherapy. Nature is also a healer in its 5,000 square meters of beautiful space.
