Happy birthday 'Toyo'
MANILA, Philippines - A big part of the Filipino diet is sardine. Probably unknown to many, the common sardine in tomato sauce, such as Toyo Sardines, has a nutritional value that is equivalent to a complete meal. The tomato sauce alone is packed with a hefty serving of vitamin C, vitamin A, B-complex vitamins, and cancer-fighting lycopene. The sardine fish, a group of several types of small oily fish related to herrings, completes the meal with its high protein, iodine, calcium, omega 3 fatty acids, coenzyme Q10, and a host of other vitamins and minerals.
Toyo sardines are a versatile ingredient for pasta or omelette, and can be a substitute for meat in some dishes. They can also serve as spread on crackers, biscuits, and pandesal.
Toyo is part of a larger family of well-loved consumer products that include the Señorita and Swan brands of sardines, Señorita Tomato Paste and Dry Peas, Mayon Garbanzos, Green Peas, White Corn Kernel and Cream Style Corn, and Ocean’s Best Tuna. It’s been enjoyed by Filipinos for over 20 years now.
