By George, look who's going green!
MANILA, Philippines – Premier vision care provider George Optical has something green up its sleeves. As part of its 50th anniversary celebration of success in the industry, the company now moves steadily forward with the first of many thrusts that will set the groundwork for its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
George Optical introduces its G.O. Green Campaign, a project that aims to instill in the general public further awareness of the concept of environmental preservation through recycling.
The G.O. Green Campaign, which kicked off last April 1, encourages eyeglass wearers to support the environment and aid the less fortunate by helping recycle old frames. These recycling efforts will benefit the Missionaries of Charity (Home of Joy), the charity patients of the Ophthalmology Division of the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, the Ophthalmology Division of the University of Santo Tomas Hospital, and UNTV.
Customers can drop off their old frames (no purchase required) at any George Optical branch, where they will also be recycled for the use of the George Co Sr. Foundation. The foundation will also cover the costs of the lens and actual repairs.
To further encourage consumers to patronize earth-friendly products, George Optical brings the award-winning LinkSkin line of ophthalmic products. LinkSkin is a frame that is made without the use of soldering, screws or hinges, creating pro-environment eyewear that is also RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances) compliant.
Using diverse design influences from France, Singapore, Japan, and Australia, LinkSkin makes use of recycled materials and existing technologies, mechanisms, and functions to advocate corporate social responsibility and awareness.
Marketing manager Erica Marquez-Jacinto believes that the project is a great first step for the company in fulfilling its commitment to corporate social responsibility.
Established by the late George G. Co, O.D., George Optical has 15 branches nationwide, offering products including ophthalmic lenses and prescription frames, and services such as optometric consultation, ophthalmological consultation, and various eye treatments.
