Healthy lifestyle, healthy baby

MANILA, Philippines - Pregnancy is an exciting time and major change in a woman’s life. From the very start, your baby-to-be alters the way you live your daily life and contributes to some body changes. The best way to approach pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum period is to be well-informed. As soon as you suspect you are pregnant or even when you are planning to become pregnant, visit your doctor at once, get a regular prenatal care, follow a healthy lifestyle, and gather all the information you need in making decisions. By doing this, you’re helping your baby to start healthy, as well as keeping yourself at your best.

Indeed, taking good care of both your physical and mental health during pregnancy has a very significant impact on the future of your baby. Many choices that you make in your daily life during pregnancy can affect your health as well as the baby’s.

To help answer questions on the different issues on pregnancy, Asian Hospital and Medical Center, in conjunction with the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Anesthesia and Pediatrics, is currently conducting lay forums entitled “Simply Maternal” held every other month from February to October.

Two half-day sessions tackle the different aspects of prenatal care, labor, delivery, and postpartum care, understanding obstetrics anesthesia, breast feeding, and newborn care that includes an interesting lecture and demonstration on infant touch therapy. In addition to this, a featured topic is included in each session. These are proper nutrition during pregnancy, obesity in pregnancy, dermatologic conditions and skin care during pregnancy, cord blood banking and understanding antenatal surveillance procedures and monitoring

Expectant moms and dads are invited to attend on June 19 and 26, August 21 and 28, October 16 and 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Patio, lower ground of Asian Hospital and Medical Center. Admission is free.
