Sports nutrition seminar set

MANILA, Philippines - The School of Nutrition of the Philippine Women’s University in collaboration with St. Luke’s Medical Center-Bonifacio Global City will hold a seminar on “Recent Advances in Sports Nutrition” on Wednesday, April 28 at 8 a.m. in Taguig City.

Director Dr. Jose Canlas of the Institute of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine of St. Luke’s will give the welcome remarks while Dean Dr. Leonora Panlasigui of PWU will deliver the overview on sports nutrition.

The medical aspects of physical exercise will be discussed by Dr. Alejandro Pineda, medical director of the Philippine Center for Sports Medicine.

Other speakers are Luchie Callanta of University of the Philippines and Karen Leslie Pineda of Philippine Sports Commission and University of Santo Tomas.

The afternoon session will tackle the topics “Biomechanical Aspects of Physical Exercise” and “Ergonenics is Sports,” which cover nutritional and dietary supplements and herbals in sports. Speakers are Dave Bercales of UP, Dr. Cecilia Acuin, also of UP, and Dr. Trinidad Trinidad of FNRI-DOST.

Sebastian Ripoll of Far Eastern University will give a talk on “Specialized Food or Drink in Sports.” The one-day seminar closes with remarks delivered by PWU CEO and board trustee Alfredo Reyes.
