MANILA, Philippines - In a remarkable effort to rid the environment of plastic waste, SM Hypermarket, SM Supermarket, and Savemore have all decided to do the ultimate thing — go green! Yep, these stores are now selling SM Greenbags that are a whole lot more environment-caring and not to mention, a whole lot more chic.
The SM Greenbag only costs P35. And if you grab some on a Wednesday, you can buy these bags at a buy one-take one offer, since it’s SM’s MOB (My Own Bag) Day. And every time grocers take their greenbags with them, SM Advantage members can earn as much as six points per day. What’s more, these bags can hold up to as much as the grocery contents of two regular-size grocery plastic bags. As you can see, it’s cheap, it’s efficient, and very environment-friendly.
Of course, as much as SM loves the environment, they also have a lot more love to give to their grocers. That’s why SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket, and Savemore always have tons of promos to guarantee that their customers get more value for their money any time of year.
For starters, having an SM Advantage Card (SMAC) entitles shoppers to a host of privileges, discounts, and even freebies. At SM Hypermarket, there is the “Buy Me” promo where a shopper may be entitled to spin the SM roulette for an instant prize. Meanwhile, SM Supermarket also similarly holds a “Yellow Tag” promo where shoppers may be invited to play the pachinko game for an instant prize.
At the same time, these supermarkets also offer “value packs,” letting shoppers bring home a free SM Bonus item instantly, upon purchasing a bundled product. And for the summer, SMAC members may avail themselves of an electric fan at a special discount for a minimum amount of purchase.
To date, SM has come out with over four million greenbags throughout the country and because of this, a total of P600,000 has been donated to the SM Foundation. In the near future, SM hopes to encourage even more grocers to ditch the plastic and go green.
The SM Greenbag project is a partnership between SM Supermarket and Unilever Philippines. Since its launch in June 2007, the project has garnered recognition from the International Association of Business Communicators’ (IABC) Philippine Gold Quill and the Public Relations Society of the Philippines’ (PRSP) Anvil Awards.
Participating stores for the SM Greenbag project currently include SM Supermarket Makati, SM Megamall, SM Cubao, SM North Edsa 1, SM Sta. Rosa, SM Cebu, SM Davao, SM Cagayan De Oro, SM Pampanga, SM Jaro 1, SM Delgado, SM Mandurriao, SM Savemore North Edsa 2, SM Savemore Jaro 2, and SM Hypermarket Pasig.
The Greenbag project should also be coming to any SM Supermarket, Hypermarket or Savemore near you.
