MANILA, Philippines - The Parañaque City government under Mayor Florencio Bernabe Jr. recently distributed Philhealth cards to 3,332 indigent residents of the city.
The beneficiaries were pre-qualified by the City Social Welfare and Development (Parañaque DSWD) Office headed by Dean Calleja in cooperation with the City Health Office headed by Dr. Olga Virtusio; Office of the City Secretariat headed by Liberty Florendo; Parañaque Health Plan Office headed by Dr. Oscar De Leon; and the Philhealth Insurance Corp.
“The recent global economic recession has made it more difficult for our indigent constituents to get proper medical attention for lack of secure jobs and steady income. With these health cards, we will be able to provide some solutions to their health problems,” Mayor Bernabe said.
On hand to make the orientation on Philhealth benefits and availment procedures were the agency’s social insurance officers Rebecca Dauan and Golda Ajero.
Parañaque Health Plan head Dr. Oscar De Leon lauded Mayor Bernabe’s administration for its efforts in prioritizing health issues and pushing programs and projects that promoted the health of residents in the city.
To be able to provide poor citizens with Philhealth coverage, the national government and the Parañaque LGU paid for the cost of the citizens’ coverage.
