MANILA, Philippines - Getting fit isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Or is it? One of the simplest and most inexpensive ways to get back on the healthy road is walking. No need for an expensive membership at a gym, or to be at peak physical fitness. All you need is your legs, two feet, and a comfortable pair of walking shoes. Those shouldn’t set you back too far.
Definitely, though, where you do that walking would matter a lot. You don’t want to be doing it on main roads where a lot of cars pass through, considering physical hazards like inhaling toxic carbon monoxide or getting clipped by a one-ton bucket of bolts moving upwards of 80kph.
You need a nice place to do all that walking — maybe inside your village or subdivision. Another good location would be within a familiar school campus where other casual walkers may have the same idea. Surround yourself with a lot of trees, foliage, and the like. Look for places that don’t allow too much traffic to pass through them. Scenery is nice, too. Strolling through a nice place makes the deed more enjoyable than just “exercise.” Trees, minimal cars, nice surroundings? Sounds like this place could be some kind of park. Or a fort, an old one, with classic structures, a moat, and lots of trees. The road has cobblestones laid out on it, and a there might be a river running beside it. Our country’s national hero might have been locked up in there back in the Spanish days. Got the picture yet? Definitely, a great place to take a walk is within the walled city of Intramuros and within the fortifications of Fort Santiago. It’s a relaxing place which gives us a sense of who we are as a people, as Filipinos. And while walking and contemplating the idea of being Pinoy, you get to burn those calories.
Events such as this are in line with the goal of Nutrilite, which motivates people to achieve the balance needed for optimal health. With a roster that includes two-time FIFA player of the year Ronaldinho, Chinese track and field star Liu Xiang, and Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards, Nutrilite has enough big guns to inspire ordinary people like ourselves to strive for that healthy lifestyle.
And we Filipinos can feel even more pride knowing that one of our own has made it into the top ranks of Team Nutrilite. Champion bowler and living legend Paeng Nepomuceno has agreed to become a Nutrilite brand ambassador. His excellence in the bowling alley will surely give many individuals the much-needed motivation to live a healthy life the natural way.
Paeng discovered bowling as a young boy while vacationing in Bagiuo. Since then, he has broken numerous records in the bowling arena, and has set the bar for this sport. The story goes that Paeng was playing a round of golf at Camp John Hay when it began to drizzle. To seek shelter from the rain, he decided to take cover inside the old Mile-Hi Center, which housed a bowling alley. And it’s no mystery how Paeng made it from the golf green into the Mile-Hi building that fateful day. He walked.
