MANILA, Philippines – Since 1969, the Phi Lambda Delta Sorority has been known as the fertile ground that breeds some of the most venerable lady doctors in the land. Now in its 40th year, the highly esteemed sorority of the UP College of Medicine remains true to its insignia — better, bolder, and stronger. 2009 marks a big year for the ladies of the Phi Lambda Delta as it brims with its biggest activities to date. The commencement of celebrations focuses on its ultimate goal of bringing health to less privileged Filipinos.
Last May, the sorority pushed for the renovation of Barangay Malibay, Pasay City’s TeenBayan, and Well Babies Shed, a center where troubled teens seek help and counseling. This August, it launches its Adopt-a-Barangay project, KKK (Kabuhayan sa Kabahayan Tungo sa Kaunlaran), in Barangay 107, Pasay City, geared towards empowering the community towards self-sustenance.
To come are the sorority’s breastfeeding campaign and year-round equipment donations to the Philippine General Hospital.
On Saturday, Aug. 22, Phi Lambda Delta brings fashion a notch higher as it hosts “Rx: A Work of HeArt” at Greenbelt 5. With Sagip Buhay Foundation and the patients of the PGH Department of Medicine as beneficiaries, the country’s A-list designers help save lives with their creations.
