Moms relearn the basics of good nutrition
MANILA, Philippines - More mothers relearn the fundamentals of proper nutrition, thanks to Laki Sa Gatas, a nutrition education advocacy from the makers of Bear Brand powdered milk drink.
Laki Sa Gatas aims to educate Filipinos about the importance of proper nutrition. It holds a session for mothers everytime it visits public elementary schools to teach moms how to make healthy food options for their families.
“Mothers play a big role in ensuring their children’s health that’s why we include activities for them in Laki Sa Gatas. This is our way of encouraging and informing them about how they can provide proper nutrition to their children,” says Eugene David, Nestle Philippines Inc. (NPI) business executive manager for Dairy Health and Nutrition Solutions, the makers of Bear Brand powdered milk drink.
Holding mothers’ sessions equips participants with knowledge about good health to train their children how to eat right.
Go, Grow And Glow Foods
Together with its partner organizations, Laki Sa Gatas teaches mothers the value of the basic nutrients a child needs or the so-called “Go, Grow, and Glow” nutrients.
Participants are educated on how to incorporate these nutrients in preparing meals. They are also advised to make healthy snacks available at home so kids will avoid eating junk foods.
Milk Benefits
One of the main focuses of the mothers’ session is inculcating to mothers the value of drinking milk. They are encouraged to give their kids at least two glasses of milk every day as it is rich in essential vitamins and nutrients that help optimize growth and development.
Milk is rich in calcium that helps develop strong bones and teeth. It has protein, which is needed for building and repairing tissues. Milk is also a good source of nutrients like vitamin C and zinc, which help strengthen a kid’s body resistance.
