Thyroid symposium at Asian Hospital
MANILA, Philippines – We’ve heard of people suffering from hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism and how these conditions are associated with one’s weight or metabolism. Indeed, thyroid diseases continue to confuse most of us, and what’s alarming is that we may be suffering needlessly from them as we are unaware of their symptoms or their impact on our quality of life.
Thyroid diseases target the thyroid gland, a small, butterfly-shaped organ located at the base of the neck, in front of the windpipe. It makes, stores, and releases thyroid hormones into the blood to regulate metabolism. These hormones are essential for the proper functioning of all body tissues and organs, enabling the body to use its stores of energy efficiently, thereby controlling temperature and allowing the muscles to work properly.
To raise awareness and educate people about thyroid diseases, the Asian Hospital and Medical Center will hold the first scientific symposium on “Thyroid Diseases: Updates, Controversies, Current Management,” on Saturday, June 27, 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the fourth floor, Training Room of the Asian Hospital.
