Wanted: A tasty, nutritious, and easy-to-prepare breakfast meal

MANILA, Philippines – Aware of the fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management (DLS-CSB School of HRIM), one of the country’s best hotel and restaurant management schools, in cooperation with one of the country’s premier bread makers, Gardenia Bakeries Philipppines, Inc. (GBPI), decided to issue a challenge for any one or any group to come up with various breakfast meals that should not only be tasty and nutritious but also easy to prepare, considering our fast-paced lives today.

With this in mind, a group of top-notch students from DLS-CSB School of HRIM gamely responded to the challenge. Early today, the students will roll up their sleeves and let their creative culinary juices flow in front of members of media as they participate in what is now known as the “Breakfast Royale.”

A total of six groups with three students per group will participate, all with diverse cooking philosophies and methodologies and overall style yet one in their objective: win the challenge and earn bragging rights as the first winners of the “Breakfast Royale.”

In front of the media, DLS-CSB School of HRIM officials, and GBPI executives, the students will prepare their entries to the challenge in the most dazzling and entertaining way possible, and yet remain focused on the objectives of the challenge, which is to come up with a breakfast meal that is not only tasty but also nutritious and easy to prepare. They are tasked to prepare their meals using Gardenia’s Classic White Bread, Pan De Sal and High Fiber Whole Wheat Bread.

 “This breakfast challenge is one way to advocate the importance of having breakfast, it being the most significant meal of the day. Through this, we hope to convey to the public that they should not skip breakfast, that it is not hard to prepare, contrary to common misconceptions, and that breakfast meals are nutritious and tasty, especially if you use Gardenia breads,” explains Simplicio Umali Jr., president and general manager of GBPI.

Umali adds that in the next few weeks, the company will be firming up plans on its advocacy efforts about the importance of breakfast that is targeted towards a wider audience.

Out of this group of students, only one winner will emerge champion of the Breakfast Royale. The winner will be chosen based on the following criteria: 30 percent for taste, 30 percent for nutritional value, 30 percent for presentation and creativity, and 10 percent for the quickest preparation time.
