Biking your way to health

- Jennifer Ong -

On the road, on the trail and even on or off the bike, the Crocs Tikali has got it going on. The Tikalis are every man’s partner for outdoor play. They are lightweight, durable, comfy, and stylish. And it’s no wonder that good friends and cycling buddies Mannito Duenas, Donn So, Angelo Barretto, Tomas Bernardo, Austin Andrews and Cess Almazora were more than happy to take it out for a little test-ride one easy afternoon.

The Crocs Tikali is quite the ultimate outdoor footwear. It’s an open-toe sandal that makes it ideal for camping and hiking, especially when you’ve got to wade through some rivers. There are also some adjustable hooks and straps on the sandals to keep your feet in place, whatever terrain you’re treading on. What’s more, it’s also made of the Crocs patented technology Croslite, which produces soft, ultra-comfy lightweight sandals that have superior gripping strength and odor resistance.

Ask Mannito, Donn, Angelo, Tomas, Austin and Cess and they’ll tell you that Crocs has quite won them over. These guys are also quick to point out that the sandals are not for heavy, competitive biking, but for an easy biking stroll in the park.

Like all the other guys, Donn cannot really take his bike out as often as he’d like to. “I bike about three times a week, about 12 hours every week. I’d ride every day if I could, but I have to balance out my time with work and my family,” he says.

Meanwhile, Angelo wishes that he and everyone else could get on the bike more often, and for very good reasons: “I do not get the chance to ride as often as I like, but if I could, I would get on the bike more as I have realized the benefits that a regular ride has on my health, and proved that bicycle commuting is not as impractical as people think, even in the Philippine setting.”

True, biking regularly can be quite a healthy habit. It’s fun. It’s challenging. Take it from Tomas who tends to push his limits on the bike every time. Asked why he likes biking so much, he says, “It’s the challenge of forcing yourself to push the edge of the envelope further with your biking skills and the bike’s capabilities.  Trying to go further and faster each time is a big challenge.”

Cess adds, “It’s a good exercise and hardly damages your joints — unless you fall.”

Angelo asserts, “Bike form is probably dictated by seating position, cadence, and bike fit, but looking good can be achieved by wearing the right gear.  Maybe we can start a trend by wearing the Crocs Tikali on the bike more often?”
