Through thick and thin

I had a chance to chat with a co-mother in my son Benjamin’s preschool, Min-min Marquez.  I couldn’t help but notice how slim and fit she has become and asked her the secret behind her new and improved body. She shared that she was motivated to get fit and healthy because she was frustrated about not being able to get into her old clothes. She then decided to exercise at least three times a week and go on a low-carb/low-calorie diet.  She also limits her intake of healthy carbohydrates, which include camote, brown rice, wheat bread, and wheat pasta. Because of her discipline in sticking to her decision, she now wears a size 4 whereas before, she was stuck to size 8 clothes!

Min-min’s husband Anthony, by the way, now looks great with his superior physique as well. It was actually he who initiated this healthy trend in his family by encouraging his wife to join him in his quest for fitness. Six months ago, he weighed 188 lbs. If you’re 37 years old and stand 5’5.5 inches, that takes a toll on your body. Well, Anthony felt a lot of back pains that prevented him from being efficient in many things so he decided to end his agony.  Anthony altered his eating habits by eating his veggies with carbs and his meats with veggies, a la Fit for Life, and then he exercised daily. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, you’ll find Anthony in the gym. Tuesdays and Thursdays were reserved for tennis and Saturdays for gym time again. He rested on Sundays and gave himself the liberty to eat as much as his heart desires. As a result, he now weighs 150 lbs! That’s 38 lbs. off his previous weight in just six months! His waistline, which started out at 36 inches, is down to 31 inches. Amazing! 

When I asked Min-min how she attained optimum health, she said that effective and faster results could be achieved when husbands and wives share the same vision towards good health. Because she and her husband got into the program together, they encouraged each other and were excited to do things together. As a result, they got less tired, had more endurance for work, and, yes, their sex life was better than ever! They used to be sickly, but now, they’re less prone to getting sick and, most of all, they are now able to fit into smaller-sized clothing, which elicits positive comments from people. They look younger and feel great. She even said that people often mistake them for being "mag-boyfriend."   

Min-min said that it takes only a decision to see the fulfillment of your desired goal for your body.
