BIG BROTHER BIG SISTER PROJECT

Learning how to read and write is a basic right of every child. Regrettably, abject poverty has deprived many children of that opportunity. Whilst true that there are public schools to provide free education, the lack of resources (e.g. books, school supplies, etc.) makes it difficult for the children to even show up for class. Many parents can barely provide food on the table, let alone buy school supplies for their kids. Everyday is a choice between sending their kids to class or to the streets to earn their daily bread.

With this in mind, the Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) Project was conceived in year 2005. The project endeavors to provide students in remote community schools with school supplies for their use in the school year.

This year, our initial target is three hundred (300) kids of four (4) community schools located in the Municipality of Lacub, Abra, Philippines, namely: Pacoc Elementary School, Lacub Central School (LCS), Lacub Central School Lan-ag Extension and Lacub Central School Bacag Extension.

Big Brother Big Sister

Instead of seeking major sponsors to finance this project, we came up with a more straightforward way of acquiring sponsors. For every three hundred pesos (Php 300) donated, a big brother/sister will be able to provide one student with a school pack which will contain the following school items:

1 Bag
7 Notebooks
4 Ball-point pens
4 Pencils
3 Writing Pads
Others: crayons, sharpener, ruler

The Big Brother Big Sister Project aims to obtain benevolent big brothers and sisters by simply spreading the message among close friends, relatives, office colleagues, and their friends and relatives.

How You Can Help

You are invited to be part of the BBBS Project. Each donation worth three hundred pesos (Php 300) will be enough to buy necessary school supplies for one (1) child. It does not have to be 1 donor per 1 child, you may choose to be co-donors with a friend for 1 child.

If you wish to share your blessings with the children, you can send in your pledges now. Or simply send this message to your friends who might wish to. On May 13-14, 2006, you are also welcome to assist in the distribution of supplies to the children of Abra.

What?s Your Wish?

When you look up at the stars tonight, you will see the same stars which the children wish upon. Maybe ... just maybe ? your pledge is all that?s keeping one child from attending his classes. William Butler Yeats said, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." ... Got a light?
