POA 52nd CONFAB

The Philippine Orthopaedic Association, Inc., (POA) is holding its 52nd Annual Congress which started December 5 and will end tomorrow December 8 at The Westin Philippine Plaza. This year's theme is "Orthopaedic Trauma Trends in the 21st Century," according to POA president Dr. Lauro M. Abrahan, Jr. POA Vice-President Dr. Venancio P. Garduce Jr., over all convention chairman said that close to 500 orthopaedic surgeons from all over the country and overseas have registered in the four-day session. POA Treasurer Dr. Rodolfo L. Nitollama, Chairman of the Trades and Exhibits Committee said about 50 pharmaceutical and orthopaedic implant companies participated in the event.

POA Secretary Dr. Arturo C. Cañete, Chairman of the Scientific Committee reported that topics being discussed by the experts during the 10 lecture sessions in the conference were basic sciences, the polytrauma patient, osteoporotic fractures, current concepts and controversies on fracture fixations, the pelvis and the acetabulum, the Bone and Joint Decade plenary lectures, interactive symposia on trauma complications and neglected trauma, spine trauma and free papers.

Seven world-renowned orthopaedic trauma specialists comprise the international faculty. They are Drs. Kyle Dickson, Edward V.A. Lim, Rolando Puno, and David Seligson of the USA; Theerachai Apivhat and M. Banchong of Thailand; and Khong Kok Sun of Singapore.

The local faculty includes Drs. Jonathan Asprer of UST; Adrian Catbagan and Juanito Javier of UP-PGH; and Jose Martin Paiso of POC.

The Congress aims to focus on the latest principles of treatment of orthopaedic trauma. The scientific program has been designed to benefit orthopaedic surgeons, general surgeons with interest in traumatology, physiatrists, physical therapists, coaches, trainers, athletes, general sports enthusiasts and general practitioners.
