WATCH: 'Toughest phone' survives 50-foot drop test

MANILA, Philippines — A new phone in the Philippines, touted to be the "toughest phone in the market to date," would be "hard launched" on January 12 with a live Facebook presentation of the phone's 100-foot drop.

The successor of the viral X9a 5G, the X9b 5G, would be launched by Honor Philippines live on Facebook at 7 p.m.

During a recent "endurance test," the phone was seen to endure a car runover with a heavyweight Hummer as well as an intense smash test relay where participants smashed as many thick tiles as they could in 30 seconds. Guests aimed for the ultra-tough display of the X9b 5G in a competitive paintball, sparring and archery contests. Lastly, X9b 5G was proven to survive a 50-foot drop test through a flight of stairs, elevator drops, among other situations. On January 12, it would be shown to survive double that height in an attempt to prove that it is the toughest phone there is.

“Honor X9b 5G has been proven durable as the device was carefully studied and has undergone three tempering processes and we are sure that it can surpass the success of its predecessor. Advice for the public though, while we are confident that it will survive intense pressure, intentional dropping and smashing might still cause physical damage to the phone,” stated Honor Philippines Vice President Stephen Cheng.

The X9b 5G features a 120Hz curved AMOLED screen and a micron-sized gap structure to ensure a 360-degree drop resistance. It also comes with a 108MP main camera, 5MP ultra-wide camera and 3x zoom for high quality zoomed shot. This is boosted by its Ultra-durable Battery that has a capacity of 5800 mAh, promising a worry-free user experience with full-day battery life. — Video by Honor Philippines via Facebook, edited by Philstar.com/Anjilica Andaya
