WATCH: ‘Fastest’ electric scooter in the Philippines unveiled
MANILA, Philippines — With Metro Manila’s traffic jams and the ongoing Boracay rehabilitation, many Filipinos now look for ways to help ease the pressures people put into the environment.
To help lessen pollution and traffic congestion in the Philippines, a Filipino company recently unveiled electric scooter or “Ecooter” at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
Launched in China in March 2017, the scooter has been touted as the “sports car of all electric scooters” for its 2,500W electric motor that makes it possible to drive at a top speed of 75 km/hr, running 80 km in distance when fully charged (base on 1 passenger), as opposed to other electric scooters that can only reportedly travel at speeds of 20 to 60 km/hr.
The scooter uses recyclable lithium batteries that take six hours to get fully charged, but the charging automatically stops once the battery is full so no extra energy is consumed, said the brand's local distributor. Batteries can also be swapped at dealers and convenience stores and battery rental changing stations will be available all over Metro Manila.
The company’s representatives in the Philippines assured that the scooter is as energy-efficient as any appliance with an inverter technology and it does not emit smoke, so it reportedly produces zero carbon footprint. — Video by Erwin Cagadas
