Polaroid reinvented via PoGo 2

Last Wednesday Polaroid launched their new PoGo 2 digital camera with instant printer at an exhibit that took place at the SM Megamall Event Center Lobby.

Polaroid tapped local photography/design team Everywhere We Shoot to curate the exhibit, while EWS chose six other contributors — Jake Verzosa, MM Yu, Charles Buenconsejo, An & En Estrada of Your Evil Twin, Revo Naval, and the Mango Red team of Ryan and Randall Dagooc — to join them in the show.

Each was given a PoGo 2 and 80 pieces of Polaroid Zink (or zero ink) paper to shoot whatever they wished. Photos were arranged in montages set up around the venue.

I’d seen the previous PoGo camera being used by Ryan Vergara and Garovs Garovillo of EWS at a dinner we attended, and was impressed by the digital camera’s printer, because each printout is also a sticker.

Settings can be played with to customize one’s photos.

Revo Naval tinkered with color filters, as each of his photos was tinged red. MM Yu made use of frames to recreate the vintage Polaroid white borders in some of her shots.

Unlike the classic Polaroid cameras, you can now preview your shot before deciding to print. You can even print multiple copies of an exact image for your friends.

From Jake Verzosa’s array of lavishly decorated jeepney fronts to MM Yu’s cute trinkets; to Mango Red’s charming detail close-ups and Revo Naval’s crimson hipster party we weren’t invited to; Your Evil Twin’s Cindy Sherman-ish fixation to Everywhere We Shoot’s deconstruction of Mei Bastes, the exhibit was a great venue to display both the PoGo 2’s features and photographers’ individual styles.

The annual Silent Film Festival is upon us!

A series of silent films with live music performed by local bands/musicians kicks off August 28, 2010 with the Italian film Assunta Spina scored by Caliph8 and Japan’s Kid Commotion scored by Radioactive Sago Project.

On August 29, Spain’s Wine Cellars is scored by Tanglaw and Germany’s Berlin: Symphony of a Great City is scored by Out of Body Special.

I haven’t been disappointed by any of the films/performances I’ve seen over the last three years of this festival so do try to check it out for yourself.

All screenings take place at the Shangri-La Plaza Cineplex. Tickets are free but can go fast. Reserve yours now at http://www.ohmydaily.com/events
