Frankenstein phones are real

STILL TALKING - Enrico Miguel T. Subido -

We are a demanding people. We want steak and prawns on the same platter; our automobiles should be able to save gas while ripping up the open road; and of course, we want everything at an instant. I believe it is human nature to multi-task. Our demand for so many things makes us this way. So we want our gadgets to keep up with our many needs.

Take for instance the cellular phone. It was created so that people could make voice calls without having to look for a land line. That’s it. Cell phones nowadays are a Frankenstein of gadgets. They can be used for SMS messaging, taking photos and videos, connecting to the Internet, playing games, making video calls, and as music players. The list gets even longer when you start to include standard phone applications like “radio,” “calculator” and “voice recorder.”

In our country it’s all about cell phones. Everyone has one, from company CEOs to the pan de sal guy in the morning. And its functionality has gone far beyond that of mere communication. These are lifestyle and entertainment doohickeys; it just so happens that they can make calls, too.

Take for example Sony Ericsson’s brand new X10 mini and mini pro: these things are the size of a credit card but they each have a touch screen interface, 5-megapixel camera for stills and video that comes with auto focus, geo tagging, photo and video light and the Sony Ericsson album application, a feature that organizes image files. That’s not even mentioning that they can connect to the Internet and are quite stylish.

The X10 is currently being showcased at the 2010 Sony Ericsson Expo, along with other Sony Ericsson products such as the brands line of Xperia, Walkman, and Cybershot phones. Also being launched are the all-new Vivaz and Vivaz Pro units, offering users touch video capture in HD. HD video! In a cell phone!

Sony Ericsson has gathered over 20 authorized dealers and business partners to give the best deals on an array of handsets, consumer electronics, music and movies. The Expo also features touch-and-feel stations for visitors to see and try out the units being showcased. Visitors can also win prizes from other participating Sony companies and those who purchase the X10 mini or mini pro will receive a special edition mini tee from Oxygen.

The 2010 Sony Ericsson Expo also launches its Wonder Kidz contest. If your child has the talent and you’ve got the camera, capture the amazing act and you can get the chance to win the new Sony Ericsson Vivaz with HD video, and P 50,000 in cash. Children can sing, dance, act their hearts out, play sports, express themselves through art, or just be themselves. Upload the videos on the new Sony Ericsson Philippines Facebook page and the top 10 “most liked” entries will qualify as finalists for judging by a celebrity panel of judges.

The 2010 Sony Ericsson Expo is happening at the Megatrade Hall 1, SM Megamall Bldg. B until today. Avail of great deals on cool Sony Ericsson products, so make sure to drop by and get up close with these new gadgets.

Visit the Sony Ericsson PH Facebook page for full mechanics of the Wonder Kidz competition. Deadline for submission of entries is Aug. 31. Add them as a contact while you are there.
