Globe reaches out to tribal communities in Quezon

MANILA, Philippines - Globe conducted a medical mission for several Dumagat communities from the hinterlands of Bordeos Island, Polilio Islands, General Nakar, Infanta, and Real in Quezon.

Globe Bridging Communities (Globe BridgeCom), Globe’s corporate social responsibility program in partnership with Phi Sigma Gamma Fraternity of University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine, Tribal Center for Development Foundation, Inc. (TCD), Municipal Health Office of General Nakar, and the Prelature of Infanta, Globe conducted a medical mission at Sts. Anne and Joaquin Parish in General Nakar, Quezon. The mission provided much-needed medical attention and medicines to more than 200 families belonging to SAIGIBIN-LN (Samahan ng mga Grupong Agta na Nagtatanggol at Binabaka ang Lupaing Ninuno), an association of tribal communities, duly registered with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples.

“With only one public health official in General Nakar, the medical mission comes as a timely project for the Agta communities,” said TCD Executive Director Ramcy Astoveza.

“The medical mission had definitely helped our community’s need for medical assistance. We are thankful that Globe assisted us and readily responded to our request,” Astoveza added.

Globe Community Relations Head Jeffrey Tarayao on the other hand, reiterated Globe BridgeCom’s commitment to serve communities throughout the country through various community development projects like medical missions. “Globe will readily assist projects that aim to uplift the lives of the Filipino people especially those who are often neglected such as our Agta and Dumagat brethren,” Tarayao said.

Globe’s medical mission is part of Globe’s CSR efforts geared towards putting up sustainable development projects in the various communities that it serves.

Globe together with other Ayala group companies recently released sustainability development reports—the first Philippine conglomerate to do so. The Ayala group vows to pursue a “triple bottom line” approach to measuring corporate success. The report covers indicators in economic, social, and environmental performance using the international Global Reporting Initiative standards.
