MANILA, Philippines - Costume play — more popularly known as cosplay — is now a growing style trend in the Philippines. What used to be part of the Otaku culture (fans of Japanese comic books or manga) has become a more common sight in Pinoy fashion every day.
There’s a lot more to cosplay than dressing like your favorite anime character. It speaks volumes about people’s fantasies, creativity and — at the center of it all — individuality.
That same level of individuality — which gives cosplayers the courage to show off their true identities in public — runs deep in Bum’s style philosophy. As a brand that represents the youth, Bum recognizes the cosplay trend as it plays out in the Filipino fashion psyche. Bum and cosplay, after all, speak the same language.
To mark this trend, Bum is opening a contest for young Filipinos on their website. The local clothing brand invites young stylephiles to show off their own interpretation of cosplay by wearing pieces from Bum and joining the “My Story” online contest.
Bum apparel should be the core component of your costume design. Costumes can be enhanced with accessories such as wigs, makeup, contact lenses and other props. Use computer graphics in your photo layout if you like to enhance the costume/character (just be sure to display the Bum logo prominently seen in the photo).
Submit your photo and earn “Likes” on Bum’s website. The 10 most “Liked” entries get a chance to win a Nikon D3000 DSLR Camera, Blackberry 3G Phones, Samsung ES80 Cameras and tokens from Bum.
The promo lasts until Oct. 30. Announcement of winners will be on Oct. 31, 2011. Visit www.bumequipment.com.pm for rules. Bum products are available at Bum Boutiques and leading Department Stores nationwide.
