Peak performance
MANILA, Philippines - American sports apparel brand Jack Nicklaus unveils its spring/summer 2011 collection by David Chu, reflecting a greater emphasis on style matched with performance.
With golf apparel getting increasingly technical-oriented these days, the brand has chosen to take a more definitive stand by creating a new line that calls for a return to elegance, while preserving and upgrading the brand’s stronghold in the performance segment.
“Everyone’s gotten too technical. I wanted to bring back some luxury feeling — with performance, yes — but at the same time with elegance. After all, these are the qualities attributed to the Jack Nicklaus brand over the decades,” said Chu, president and creative director of Nicklaus International Brand Management.
Each of the three groupings is named after a Nicklaus Design course: Ocean’s Edge Resort and Golf Club in Cape Cod; Killeen Castle Golf Resort in Dublin, Ireland; and Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
Ocean’s Edge, inspired by the club’s Cape Cod location, features a strong and bold palette of blues, white and reds in a mix of stripes for an added nautical twist. With its whites and grays, Killeen Castle has a more European, technical, modern feel. It has features a large percentage of performance fabrications.
Sebonack, like the Southampton club it’s named after, consists of a subtle color palette of pastels: soft yellows, blues, lavenders blend a fresh and sophisticated use of color with old-guard flavor. Standouts include a green-blue madras check available in a pant or long short, a Bedford cord “skort” and a sea-foam green, fitted sweatshirt with graphic, contrast welt seams.
The Jack Nicklaus Spring/Summer 2011 Collection is available in Rustan’s Makati, Shangri-La Plaza, Alabang Town Center, Gateway Mall Cubao, Robinsons Place Ermita, Ayala Center Cebu, Landmark Trinoma, SM Makati, Clark, Chimes Dept.
