The perfect grand slam
MANILA, Philippines - How do you improve a piece of apparel that is beautiful because of its simplicity? That was the Nike Sportswear design team’s challenge when they set their sights on creating the perfect polo for summer. The solution was to add innovations that may only be noticeable to the wearer. Crafted from high-quality pique fabric, Nike Sportswear’s Grand Slam Polo breathes better than traditional polos thanks to a subtle, vented collar construction knit on the inside of the back collar. Adding to the comfort factor, the interior of the fabric is flat-knit, giving it a smooth feeling against the skin. Designers also geeked out on minutiae like the size of buttons, making sure that they nest seamlessly into their respective holes. These polos wouldn’t be Nike Sportswear without a twist. In this case, designers injected some personality in the form of three special embroidered chest insignias: a Swoosh design, Sunburst design, a shoe, and a classic Nike logo.
In addition to this line-up of reinvented classics, Nike Sportswear pushed its Torch material even further to reinvent a 2008 Beijing innovation, the Rejuven8. Dubbed the Nike LunarLite Rejuven8 Mid, it’s an ideal combination of lightweight comfort, structure and breathability, featuring an ultra-lightweight, highly technical, engineered Torch upper fitted to a Nike LunarLite foam sole.
