MANILA, Philippines - Topman has opened its first stand-alone store at the ground level of Greenbelt 3, bringing UK’s high street high fashion for men to shoppers of one of Manila’s most upscale shopping centers.
The new store features Topman’s latest offerings for 2009. The first collection, “Spring Break,” brings to mind the nostalgic air of the 1950s and the mixed feelings of awkward adolescence and teenage enthusiasm. A bold palette of sporty primary colors is seen throughout the collection, mixed with preppy influences. Shirts and jersey polos are characterized by lines, stripes, checks and dots, which can be complemented by slim jackets, trim cardigans and other contrasting pieces. The range for bottoms mixes cotton slim roll-up trousers, slim-leg jeans, and shorts in different designs, materials and cuts. The “Spring Break Look” constitutes bright plaid shirts twinned with either cropped checked trousers or bright colored shorts.
The “Chelsea Arts Club” collection, on the other hand, recalls the individualism that prevailed during the sophisticated age when actors, artists and sartorialists brushed elbows, shared a drink and mingled in elite-member clubs. The clothes echo a quirky take on an essentially loose and relaxed look, mixing luxurious fabrics with work-wear pieces. Iconic get-ups are textured cotton shirts teamed with club blazers and coats, striped T-shirts worn underneath short-sleeve fine-knit cardigans, polka dot shirting, trilby hats and espadrilles.
