Perk up your mornings with Spanish breakfast at Barcino
MANILA, Philippines — We grew up being taught that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eat big and well to have the energy to face the day. More than this, it also fills us with love and warmth that only comes from our homes.
But as we get older, we become busier in life and prioritize other things that we don’t find time for a decent breakfast anymore. We manage with perhaps just a cup of coffee and a slice of bread.
Barcino wants to rekindle our love for breakfast with dishes that will not only perk up our mornings but also take us on a journey to Spain.
As a restaurant that celebrates the beauty and diversity of Spanish cuisine and culture, Barcino saw the need to introduce a Spanish breakfast offering to Filipinos.

First offered at Barcino in Santolan Town Plaza, San Juan City, Desayuno is now filling up the tummies of residents and early risers of Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. It is now being served at Barcino in Uptown Parade.
The experience begins the moment one steps inside Barcino, which transforms into a garden filled with colors and flowers every morning. The ambiance is welcoming perfect for family and friends to gather around the table and shares stories along with hearty dishes.
As expected, the Desayuno menu, inspired no less by Barcelona, is impeccable and well thought of. It is proudly Spanish up front but with a closer look, the dishes have Filipino twists for a fusion that is distinctly Desayuno.
Spain is the land of Jamon Serrano so it’s natural that this gourmet—and expensive—ham is featured in Desayuno. The Desayuno Andaluz is a hearty toast topped with the Spanish ham, fresh tomatoes and a dash of olive oil. It is paired with thinly cut fries and a special sauce. It looks fancy but it does the job.
Desayuno is also serving offering authentic Spanish tortilla, or the omelet. Taste the signature Desayuno Tortilla stuffed with spinach, Jamon Serrano and Manchego cheese.
Then comes two Filipino classics reinvented in Desayuno. The Champurrado is puffed rice and Venezuelan chocolate porridge with dulce de leche and milk. It is topped with an unexpected protein, the Bacalao flakes. Bacalao is the Spanish way of drying and salting cod.
The Champurrado’s white counterpart is the Desayuno Arroz Caldo, a dried porridge filled with chicken, ginger, crackling and saffron. On the side is Roasted Chicken Inasal for a winning combination.
End with a sweet note with the signature Desayuno Pancake. This fluffy classic bursts with fresh and light flavors thanks to fresh berries, whipped strawberry butter, maple syrup and lemon curd.
Other decadent dishes in the menu include Salpicao Y Huevo (Desayuno’s refined take on tapsilog), Torta Espanola and Cinnamon Tostados. The breakfast also comes with a complimentary piece of bread baked fresh in house. Of course, a serving of coffee is much needed.
