Labels to say how many calories in that Johnnie Walker shot
NEW YORK — Want to know how many calories are in your shot of Johnnie Walker or your pint of Guinness? You're about to find out.
Diageo, the global alcohol giant behind those brands, along with Smirnoff, Bailey's, Bushmills and others, says it will put alcohol-content and nutrition information on the labels of its products. The company says a "serving facts" label has been approved by regulators in the U.S. It will seek approval in Europe and elsewhere.
London-based Diageo says the information will be based on typical serving sizes so consumers know what they're drinking. The information will also be available at a company website, www.drinkiq.com .
