How Swiss it is at Spätzle Euro Market Café
MANILA, Philippines - From the food and the interiors down to the organic hand sanitizers that the restaurant generously provides its customers, everything at Spätzle Euro Market Café has been carefully thought out by its food-loving young owners, ensuring the best dining experience for its growing clientele.
Barely a year open, the delightful European-themed restaurant has already gained quite a following, which is comprised of families, office workers, and businessmen who frequent Shangri-La Mall’s East Wing. The restaurant’s success can be attributed to its attractive interiors, unique menu items and accessible pricing. But while it tries to stick to an all-European menu, the owners made sure not to alienate local diners by adding a few Pinoy touches here and there.
By bringing in a menu that’s composed mainly of Swiss and German dishes, Spätzle Euro Market Café is able to offer guests something refreshingly different. The added value here is that the ingredients are always guaranteed fresh, with the flavors of each dish not having to rely on heavy sauces and spices, but more on the quality of the ingredients and the expert techniques used to prepare each one.
Take, for example, Spätzle’s roesti (Swiss potato pancake), which makes use of a special technique to shred the potatoes, making it better than other restaurants. The Grilled Sausage Roesti is highly recommended, topped with a sunny side-up egg and served with your choice of the restaurant’s preservative-free sausages, sour cream and a lemon wedge. But feel free to indulge in the other variants of roesti available, from the Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Roesti to the Roesti Classic with Sour Cream and Lemon Wedge.
With every dish that they serve, those behind Spätzle maintain a high standard for quality and taste, which is why meticulous attention is observed with the ingredients used in the dishes. It also helps that the owners of Spätzle are into healthy eating, making them more conscious of the kind of menu they develop.
This fondness for healthy eating has resulted in an exciting new addition to the restaurant’s menu lineup, the soon-to-be-launched Salad Bar. But it’s not your typical salad bar, given how Spätzle has a unique way of presenting things. Guests can enjoy their favorite greens four delicious ways: as a salad, a wrap, a tarte flambé (an Alsatian baked flatbread topped with fresh ingredients) or a drink (salad slush).
While admittedly the concept of having to drink your salad may seem quite off-putting to some, just try the deliciously refreshing Zucchini Cucumber Mint and Lemon Salad Slush and you’ll find it a very convenient way to enjoy your vegetables.
Another exciting addition to Spätzle’s delicious menu is its chocolate fondue, which comes with an interesting selection of “dippables.†The owners thought of offering this to their guests as another way to enjoy a quiet afternoon in the mall or for those looking for a different way to cap off a delicious meal.
But for first timers to the restaurant, make sure to not miss the house specials, especially the Spatz Poutine Fries (meat, gravy and cheese on crisp potato batons), Smoked Salmon Benny (served with mushrooms over brioche bread), Spatz Carbonara, and the Tarte Flambe (choose between two options – the Tarte Flambe Rustica and the Tarte Flambe Provence).
