MANILA, Philippines - In 2013, food-loving Filipinos searched for some of the newest and most talked-about restaurants that arrived in the Philippines, but some old favorites remained popular online.
IHOP or the International House of Pancakes, a US breakfast restaurant chain, topped Google's list of top trending restaurants in the country as it became a craze in the local dining scene in February.
Another US-based breakfast destination, Slappy Cakes, landed second on the Google Zeitgeist chart as it arrived in Manila in April and sustaining interest through out the year.
Buffet restaurant Vikings' SM City North EDSA branch also made the list as the third most popular dining spot in the country and maintained users' interest over time.
Tous les Jours, a trendy French-Asian bakery from South Korea, ranked fourth most searched-for restaurants in 2013--two years after it opened its flagship store at SM City North EDSA's The Block.
Indonesian chain J.Co Donuts not only saw long queues of customers in its branches across the country but also a sustained input of search queries all year, landing fifth on Google's list.
Classic fast-food chains KFC, McDonald's and Jollibee ranked sixth, eighth and ninth respectively as popularity of their delivery services manifested on Google trends this year.
Amber's popular pancit and pichi-pichi made the restaurant land seventh on the world's biggest search engine as its market demanded more deliveries especially toward at the end of the year.
Locally owned Japanese food chain SumoSam owned by actor Marvin Agustin ranked tenth on Google as it expanded to almost 30 branches this year.
