Nuts about cooking

MANILA, Philippines - Chef Jet Te is a business graduate who pursued her passion for good food and the culinary arts.  Today she is one of the fresh faces of the Nestlé Julius Maggi Kitchen.

Chef Jet started the demo with some info on beans and nuts, starting off with the high protein content of beans, and its soluble fiber that is good for the heart.   Nuts, on the other hand, can help add two to three years to a normal lifespan.  Nuts are also known to have antioxidant qualities. Walnuts have higher antioxidant elements than hazelnuts. However, these are reduced when cooked.

According to chef Jet, beans and nuts can be cooked with your favorite meat items. “However, we enjoy nuts mostly as snacks. So for this pasta dish, I combined walnuts with mushroom and cream,” she explained.

In line with the 2013 theme “Filipino Ingredients Reinvented,” every recipe that chef Jet creates results in meals that are easy to prepare, delicious and healthy.

“I am wild over recipes, and I always make use of leftovers and simple ingredients,” said chef Jet.
