MANILA, Philippines - Pulp Live World stages Canadian pop-punk rockers SUM 41’s first concert here in Manila on Oct. 16 at the World Trade Center (Hall D), Pasay City. The concert will be opened by up-and-comers Bee Eyes and modern Pinoy Rock favorites Chicosci.
Sum 41 is one of Canada’s most popular rock bands and is currently comprised of Deryck Whibley (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Tom Thacker (lead guitar, backing vocals), Jason McCaslin (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Steve Jocz (drums).
In 1999, the band signed an international record deal with Island Records. The band released its debut album, “All Killer No Filler” in 2001. The band achieved mainstream success with their first single from the album, Fat Lip, which reached no. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and remains the band’s most successful single to date. They are also known for rock hit singles such as Over My Head, The Hell Song, Pain for Pleasure and In Too Deep. “All Killer No Filler” was certified platinum in the United States, Canada and in the UK. The band has since released four more studio albums: “Does This Look Infected?” (2002), “Chuck” (2004) “Underclass Hero” (2007) and “Screaming Bloody Murder” (2011). The three albums before “Screaming Bloody Murder” have been certified platinum in Canada.
Chicosci is one of the country’s most popular and bankable rock acts. They are band that has released five albums all under major labels — “Revenge of the Giant Robot,” “Method of Breathing,” “Icarus,” “Chicosci” and “Fly Black Hearts.” They have opened for a lot of top-notch foreign acts such as Fall Out Boy and Thursday, among others and have toured other countries such as Hong Kong and Singapore themselves.
Bee Eyes is a band that’s quickly becoming a fixture in the local independent band circuit. Comprised of Diego Abad, Idris Vicuna, Ian Villamor and Julius Valledor. The members of the band are part-anxious and part-excited to bring their brand of garage-informed lo-fi pop music as well as enjoy Sum 41’s set, as the latter was a common fixture in their younger days.
Sum 41 Live in Manila is presented by Pulp Live World. Tickets are available at all SM Tickets, Ticketworld and Ticketnet outlets nationwide and are priced at P2,500 (VIP) and P1,500 (General Admission).
