SM Seaside mall to rise in Cebu
SM Prime Holdings, the parent company of the SM Group’s shopping malls, recently launched its latest development in Cebu, which will become a major new landmark at the South Road Properties (SRP) site.
Hans Sy, president of SM Prime Holdings, led the groundbreaking ceremony for the 304,100 square-meters site development aptly called SM Seaside City Cebu. He was assisted by Congressman Tomas Osmeña, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, architect William Coscolluela, and EVP of SM Prime Holdings Jeffrey Lim.
Designed by Arquitectonica, a Miami-based international architecture, interior design and planning corporation, the SM Seaside City Cebu draws its design inspiration from the nautilus, one of nature’s shell structures.
Welcoming guests into the mall is the Cube, a sculpture made of glass and light that is poised to be the symbol for SM Seaside City Cebu. The façade of the building will be in polished metal that will beautifully reflect the rays of the sun above and the glistening sea below. It will likewise feature expanding, concentric arcs from a central multi-purpose space.
A large, modern, all-white structured church nestled among lush foliage will be the first to be built and completed in the SM SRP complex. Other establishments located at the center of the entire development will include hotels, a conference and convention center, residential buildings and community facilities . The mall will be interconnected with these structures through elevated walkways.
With a lot area of a little over 93,000 sq. meters, SM Seaside City Cebu will be a four-level circular-shaped, world-class retail mall with multiple anchors, including a two-story , 20,389 square-meters SM Department Store and SM Hypermart, a five-theater Cineplex and a 500-seating capacity IMAX Theather, an 18-lane SM Bowling and Amusement center and a food court flanking an ice skating rink that will have more than enough space for recreational and competitive figure skaters.
Retail shops will occupy the outer arc of the mall on the ground floor. This will include a furniture zone as well as a fashion boulevard to showcase the talent of Cebu’s artistic designers. Several dining outlets will face an inner circular garden, On the third floor, outlets will have verandas facing the garden below while the fourth floor will have restaurants and bars on the outer circuit of the circle with verandas on the north side of the mall looking out to the sea.
The mall will also have a covered event area for concerts and shows at the fourth floor as well as a roof garden with ponds and trees, and restaurants where one can enjoy the beauty of its surroundings.
An iconic Viewing Tower will be an attraction in itself offering magnificent panoramic sight of the entire city of Cebu. SM Seaside City Cebu will be one of the first establishments to create an address in this district and will surely pave the way for development in the area.
A fabulous cocktail party at the Ballroom of the Radisson Blu Hotel capped the high powered activities attended by equally high-profile guests from Manila and Cebu. Saxophonist Vince Lahorra entertained the invitees with mood and classical music.
