The stories you’ve been hearing are true. Chuck is the new deli king. At Chuck’s Deli, sandwiches are taken very seriously, so much so that they are hefty, huge, and chock full of meaty pleasure.
Take Chuck’s “slabwiches,” for example. That’s a sandwich turned into a humongous slab, filled with all kinds of things, from chicken to Angus beef and even fish. However, they say the slabwich that needs slaying is the one they call The Buffy. That’s a sandwich full of chunks of Buffalo chicken and garlic sauce. Slay this baby in less than five minutes and you don’t have to pay for it. What’s more, you get a cool T-shirt and your name goes right on the Chuck’s deli board, giving you ultimate bragging rights.
Now, as far as bragging rights go, all of Chuck’s deli slabwiches have them. In fact, one of my favorites here is the Reuben, Chuck’s homemade Angus corned beef piled into Chuck’s Deli’s own ciabatta bread, then topped with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, mustard, and Chuck’s sauce.
Meanwhile, if you like Thanksgiving, you’ll enjoy The Pilgrim, a slabwich filled with hefty turkey meat, cranberry jelly, gravy, and yes, stuffing.
And what can I say about the ingenious Faking Duck slabwich, but delish! Faking Duck is filled with roast pork, lettuce, hoisin sauce, leeks, and crispy noodles. If you’re opting for something just a bit lighter but equally indulgent, hook up with the Off the Hook, a slabwich of beer-battered fish, dill pickles, garlic sauce, and greens with malt vinegar.
On the other hand, if pressed sandwiches are more your thing, then you’ve got a friend in Chuck’s Deli “flatwiches,” served warm, crisp, and oozing with delight. An easy favorite is the savory salmon flatwich, filled with slices of smoked salmon, crème fraiche, capers, and arugula. And then there are the chorizo piccante flatwich and Parma ham. Both, I guarantee you, can make your day!
Well, how about those subs? Chuck’s Deli makes some mean “subwiches” to conquer all sub cravings. My pick here is the irresistible and juicy subwich known as The Shepherd. It’s a sub featuring the deli’s own lamb sausage, topped with garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber.
Want more? How about you try the rest of the gang such as The Big Ben, The Gladiator, Philly Cheese Steak, and Philly Blues?
Then again, if burgers are more your thing than subwiches, Chuck’s has got three you can choose from: The Matador, Chuck’s Burger, and The Ruedi.
All of Chuck’s sandwiches are served with freshly made chips. They are very good on their own, but even better with other things. On rainy days, pair it up with one of the deli’s comforting soups; the broccoli and cheese soup is my personal choice. What’s more, the deli also makes fresh green salads. Undeniably the most famous of all is Martin’s Buffy Salad, a creation inspired by Martin Nievera.
I have to say, as stuffed as you might become with all these incredible sandwich creations, you simply must save room for Chuck’s Deli’s famous shakes, made with three scoops of Arce ice cream’s fresh carabao’s milk. Flavors include vanilla, strawberry, chocolate, caramel, coffee crumble, quezo real, avocado, and ube.
Now, if you’re still looking for what Chuck’s calls a sweet fix, then you’re still in the right deli. Chuck’s serves up a lot of baked treats, including oatmeal raisin cookies, chocolate chip macadamia cookies, apple pie, chocolate mousse, banana cream pie, chocolate fudge cake, and more. Most of all, Chuck’s is also home to the ever-decadent Swiss chocolate ganache, truffles, and pralines.
These chocolate masterpieces are made with the finest Swiss ingredients and handcrafted by Chuck’s Deli’s owner, chef and master chocolatier Katrina Paulene Kuhn-Alcantara. The chocolate pralines come in the most interesting flavors such as limoncello, apple pie, pastis, salted butter caramel, banana, and earl grey. The truffles are a dreamy indulgence, especially flavors such as Amaretto, Grand Cru, macadamia nut, gianduja, orange liqueur, and yes, peanut butter!
Now, what can I say? Life is good with some sandwiches and a box of chocolates!
