MANILA, Philippines - “The heat-proof Glad Ovenware is handy in transporting dishes,” says chef Jill Sandique, who has been using Glad products for many years. “The containers are reusable, making Glad Ovenware one of the most practical kitchen aids this Christmas season.”
At a recent “Christmas in October” event held at chef Jill’s private kitchen, she and TV cooking show host, Janice de Belen, demonstrated and shared recipes that homemakers can use in the coming holidays. They also gave tips on the best way to handle, serve and store food using different Glad products.
Chef Jill gave the following advice: If pasta is to be served after being boiled, it should be al dente. But if it is to be cooked further, for example, baked, the pasta should be molto al dente or just beneath al dente, to ensure that the pasta is al dente when it comes out of the oven. Don’t use the ovenware at temperature above 400F.
Janice also uses Glad Cook n’ Bake non-stick cooking paper, not only for baking but also for frying, steaming or boiling. Unlike wax paper, it doesn’t leave any waxy taste and its special non-stick coating eliminates the need for greasing. What’s more, it is re-usable up to three to four times for simple baking and reheating.
“Baking is really a challenge,” Janice admits. She prefers to cook savory dishes like callos and adobo with foie gras, which was the dish she prepared when she guested in Your Japanese Kitchen, a cooking show hosted by Japan’s top culinary expert Harumi Kurihara.
Chef Jill shares some tips: Never store food in its original wrapping direct from the market to your freezer. Transfer them in new, clean bags and wraps. Glad freezer and storage zipper bags with tight blue and yellow seals are best suited for this purpose. When stacking in the freezer, place meats at the top and fish under, to avoid the fishy smell. Place chicken at the bottom to prevent contamination due to drippings.
“Glad products help simplify life in the kitchen for busy moms,” says Marites Dagdag, president of Clorox International Philippines, Inc. (CIPI). “Our kitchen aides provide convenience for homemakers, making it easy for them to maintain a clean pantry and efficient kitchen.”
