‘Ispesyal na Handa’ at Mangan

MANILA, Philippines - Mangan’s food is simple yet so delicious and down-to-earth. The Kapampangan word for it is manyaman. The restaurant boasts the Ispesyal ning Bale (house specialties), including favorites like bibingka with quesong puti or queso de bola and salted egg (P100); puto bumbong with grated coconut and mascuvado (P95), and the best-seller merienda favorites seafood pancit luglog (P112). The Ispesyal na Handa selection includes tofu sisig (P98), a light and healthy alternative to the usual sisig. Its Sisig ni Mely (P112) is served hot and wrapped in banana leaf. There’s lengua in mushroom sauce (P236), and the kare-kare buntot ng baka (ox tail) (P259) soaked in a rich, thick sauce. Bigger groups can opt for a variety of platters such as the Inihaw Pyesta (fiesta) platter (P620) loaded with inihaw na liempo (grilled pork belly), chicken barbecue, alabos na hipon (steamed shrimp), inihaw na bangus (grilled, stuffed milkfish), inihaw na talong (grilled eggplant) with burong hipon, inihaw na tahong (grilled mussels), dahon ng mustasa (mustard leaves) and a variety of sawsawan (dips).

Other best-sellers include crispy sisig, grilled liempo, bulalo Batangas, sinigang na baka, kare-kare, crispy pata, fried chicken, and crabs by the bucket. The hot plates include Sisig Kapampangan, tuna and crabmeat sisig, gambas, Crazy Chili Calamari, baby squid sisig, and sizzling bulalo.

Women love ice cream: The Joyful Party selection at Häagen Dazs

Häagen Dazs launches its new menu for women. It features iconic creations only available at Häagen Dazs shops. Signature fondue (with a mouthwatering 16 mini-scoops of macadamia nut, strawberry, cookies & cream, and coffee ice cream, among others), new sushi platters (choose from dulce de leche, strawberry gunkan, kiwi gunkan and mango sorbet sushi), and its refreshing take on the classics such as the all-time favorite banana split. The new offering for Filipino women is the Joyful Party with mini scoops of vanilla, green tea, and strawberry ice cream, raspberry sorbet, and mango sorbet on griddle cake and decorated with almonds, cherries, pretzel sticks and chocolate sauce. The Fruity Journey is loaded with strawberry ice cream, raspberry sorbet, mango sorbet, and strawberry cheesecake ice cream with fresh fruits.

Winebar at Chateau 1771 in Pasig

Café 1771 at El Pueblo Ortigas Center in Pasig City has a Winebar on the second floor. Partners Ricky Gutierrez and chef Vicky Pacheco have come up with an interesting concept for the new restaurant. A number of classic to vintage and contemporary bottles from all the known wineries in the world are available. Café 1771’s Winebar is a large event place, which can accommodate 120 persos. Two intimate private rooms can accommodate 10 to 25 persons.

Katzer, which recently opened, is owned by chef Andreas Katzer. The resto serves French Mediterranean cuisine.
