K is for Krispy Kreme... and Kruffins
MANILA, Philippines - We call them the marching Ks,” says Jim Rogers, Krispy Kreme vice president for global franchise marketing. He is referring to the Ks in Krispy Kreme, naturally. And now, this hardworking “K” takes on yet another hat as it dons the chef’s toque with its Baked Creations for brunch, “Kruffins” and “Pull Aparts.”
Sound like a mouthful? Rogers explains, “Kruffins are Krispy Kreme’s American-style handmade muffins, filled with rich and delicious fruits, nuts or chocolate. It’s a muffin with a hole in it.” Rogers, who hails from North Carolina, adds, “Pull Aparts, a North Carolina original, are rolled balls of dough, pulled apart and laid to form a doughnut-like sweet bread filled with sweet or savory varieties and baked fresh for a melt-in-your-mouth experience.”
Available in all 18 Krispy Kreme stores nationwide (plus two more opening soon at Robinson’s in Manila), these are “always bakery-fresh” and best enjoyed for brunch. For Filipinos who are known to stop for a meal six times a day, it should not be too difficult to include one more time segment in the morning and make brunch a part of the daily
routine.
“For less than P150, you can have a satisfying brunch of Pull Aparts or Kruffins with our brewed signature coffee,” says Jim Fuentebella, chairman of Krispy Kreme Philippines. It’s a departure from our usual tapsilog fare, for a change. You have a choice of cheese, sausage and cheese, bacon and cheese, and cinnamon Pull Aparts, or double chocolate, blueberry, apple streusel and classic Kruffins. And for a box of six Baked Creations, which costs only P295, you can save as much as P125.
Krispy Kreme Philippines is the first to launch the Baked Creations line among Krispy Kreme’s 580 locations worldwide. Other stores in Asia, the Middle East and Europe will soon follow suit. “They are learning from our experience,” Fuentebella says.
“The Philippine team has taken leadership in expanding the brand,” Rogers remarks. “The brand is well-loved in the Philippines.”
Rogers still remembers the day the first Krispy Kreme store opened at the Fort back in 2006. “There was a long line that snaked outside of people waiting for their turn to get in,” he recalls.
Rogers, an ex-Coca Cola man who joined Krispy Kreme 10 years ago, has visited the Philippines 13 times. He plans to bring his family, his wife and nine-year-old son to visit for the first time in February next year. “Every time I come, they give me mangoes because they know I love it,” he says. In fact, Krispy Kreme Philippines developed mango-flavored doughnuts one time. “The Philippine team has also developed fun flavors such as the Hershey’s, Oreo, and Kit-Kat donuts,” he noted.
Krispy Kreme is known for its product innovations. From its classic Original Glazed donut, Krispy Kreme has developed close to 150 new products worldwide over the years. As the brand that changed the way Filipinos see donuts, Krispy Kreme offers yet another exciting experience with its new line of Baked Creations. Go ahead, have your fill. Fuentebella says, “It’s an indulgence.”
