MANILA, Philippines - A variety of tasty and healthy vegetarian food is now available locally to cater to a growing number of health-conscious Filipinos looking for alternatives to meat and fish.
“Many people now suffer from lifestyle diseases and improper diet, that is why we are offering healthier food choices,” Fernando explained. He adds that Sage fresh and frozen meat and fish alternatives are heart and liver-friendly. They are high in fiber and protein, have no preservatives, and are surprisingly tasty. “Masarap yung paksiw na mock tuna slice, nagustuhan namin ni Representative Sandy Ocampo of Manila,” said former DepEd and DTI Secretary Jesli Lapus.
The first line of Sage vegetarian food products is frozen and dried vegetarian meat substitutes. Most of these products are now available at SM supermarkets in the frozen section of SM Megamall and SM Makati and in the near future, SM North, Cubao, San Lazaro and South Mall.
“You get the same flavor, the same texture, the same enjoyment minus the unhealthy by products of meat and the constant fear of adding some more weight. In the end, the body feels lighter, healthier and even calmer,” said Nonie Fernando, president of Sage, which imports the vegetarian products from Taiwan. “Sage products are ready to eat and simple to prepare. Just steam or place atop steaming rice, stir fry, deep-fry for 1-2 minutes or roast in an oven toaster. Some products can even be served cold.”
A food import-export company, Sage Inc., is a SEC- registered Philippine corporation, and a locator at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. Presently it is open for provincial dealership.
