Ban the boredom with Teazperiments

-

MANILA, Philippines - Are you on that stage where you would do anything to get rid of your boredom? Don’t fret. Technology provides endless entertainment options for bored tweens. From the sleekest laptop to the latest PSPs, tweens have a wide array of gadget choices to ward off boredom. But if these electronics have turned bland, how do they cope?

They can always go back to the basics like hanging out with friends. Trust the barkada to put a little kick to their anti-boredom activities by pulling off creative public flash mobs around the metro.

A flash mob, considered a form of improvisational theater, is a relatively new activity that started in New York in 2003. A large group of people suddenly assembled in a public place and performed a wholesome and unusual action then quickly dispersed.

But how does this activity become fun? According to ImprovEverywhere, an American improv group, they get their satisfaction from bringing excitement to otherwise unexciting locales by pulling a stunt that doesn’t involve humiliation or embarrassment. In the case of flash mob stunts, it is simply about making someone laugh, smile, or stop and take notice of the world around them.

Locally, there is a young flash mob group called Eksena Manila that’s widely known for their LRT Chorale and Slo-Mo stunts.  Now, a number of bold and bored barkadas, just like those who participated in the Tang Fruit Teaz Teazperiments go out in the streets to stage their original stunts.

The activity unites teens from different schools in the metro to combat boredom through the first user-generated online show geared towards the Filipino youth. Participating school organizations are asked to come up with unique flash mob stunts that can in turn be accessed at www.teazperiments.com.
