When you're hungry, do the Congo!
There was the crunch that crackled into bits. There was the glorious fat that deliciously coated the palate. And most importantly, there was the sizzle. Now, that was, indeed, a true Filipino sisig. At Congo Grille restaurant, Filipino favorites like sisig are turned into local gourmet creations that still bear the taste we have come to love, but with an added Congo zing.
Congo Grille has been serving a jungle lot of Filipino favorites since around 1999. Today, the restaurant has nine branches that continue to serve good Congo food every single day. Since 2003, Congo Grille’s two-story restaurant at Westgate Center, Alabang, has been delighting hordes of hungry diners who come to this bungalow-style restaurant to enjoy good food and good company. The specialty here is Filipino cuisine that’s rich in flavor and ingredients. And what do you know, it’s rich in spice and surprise, too!
As a heartwarming start, try Congo Grille’s sinigang na ulo ng salmon sa miso, an all-time favorite soup that melds well with the seductively tender salmon flesh and a medley of local vegetables.
Follow it up with some gambas, plump prawns cooked in a slightly spicy sauce and served on a hot sizzling plate. And for more good stuff that sizzles, try any of Congo Grille’s award-winning sisig creations, which include pork sisig, tuna sisig, chicken sisig or the very classic sisig Kapampangan. Whichever you try, they should all go well with a cold bottle of beer.
Also partnering well with beer are Congo’s jungle starters such as chicharong bulaklak, nilasing na hipon, Tex Mex nachos, crispy crablets, sesame wings, baked scallops, and Oriental spring rolls. There’s also a lot of stuff on Congo’s Grille Thrills, including tuna belly, blue marlin, blue marlin belly, pork BBQ, kebab, and honey barbecue chicken.
Make sure, too, that you leave some room for Congo Grille’s seafood specialty, sizzling stuffed squid, which oozes with cheese as it lies on a sizzling pan, doused with a savory sauce. The squid is cooked until just tender. Every bite is so good you just can’t have enough of it.
And finally, for dessert, treat yourself to something sweet the Pinoy way. Have a Congo Mango or a classic halo-halo or even a buko pandan or leche flan.
Congo Grille also offers special menu packages for big groups and parties. It’s got plenty of party packages for kids, too.
Surely, life is good when you do the Congo!
