SM super chefs whip up a holiday feast

With Christmas fast approaching, SM Hypermarket brings shoppers delectable holiday recipes in its series of Super Chefs’ cooking demonstrations.

Young guest chefs Paulo Sia and Tristan Encarnacion, as well as chefs from the MOST Culinary Institute, taught shoppers how to cook like an expert for their holiday fetes and parties. Unilever’s corporate chef Paulo Sia gave shoppers a taste of the East meets West when the Super Chefs tour stopped by SM Supercenter Pasig recently. The Center for Culinary Arts (CCA) graduate prepared three healthy and delicious recipes with a fusion vibe — mapo mushroom tofu, three mushroom stir-fried veggies, and south side beef with tomato brown sauce.

Chef Paulo’s East Meets West cooking tour will go to SM Hypermarket at the Mall of Asia on Nov. 18, and at SM City Clark on Dec. 2.

Celebrity chef Tristan Encarnacion, on the other hand, will highlight Asian recipes like chicken and pepper fruit stir-fry, beef with black bean sauce, and Southeast Asian pan-fried shrimp as he makes a stop at SM Supercenter Molino on Nov. 15. The following day, he will whip up a selection of international recipes like hummus, cream of ginger soup, warm Thai lamb salad, and fragrant salmon stir fry.

Chefs from the MOST Culinary Institute will showcase Asian, Italian, and party fare in a series of cooking demonstrations with recipes from Flavors magazine. These will be held at SM Supercenter Molino on Nov. 13 and 14; at SM City Sucat on Nov. 13-16; at SM Supercenter Muntinlupa on Nov.15, 19-23; and at SM Supercenter Valenzuela on Nov. 12, 13, 14, and 15.

Featured dishes are ebi tempura, soy chicken, steamed fish chiu chow style, and pad thai, spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti pomodoro, tomato, basil and cheese bruschetta, and grilled tuna with roasted garlic mayonnaise. Not to be missed is the chef’s party fare including cheese nachos with fresh salsa, crispy calamares, mini hotdog pizza, party skewers, burger tacos, hotdog sushi, beer steamed mussels, beer battered chicken, grilled salmon on toast, salmon deviled eggs, and chocolate mayonnaise cake.
