Hello and goodbye
The likeable, ever smiling Eddie Kong, general manager of Cathay Pacific Airways Cebu, developed close ties and relations with leaders from the travel industry and other sectors of the Cebuano community during his all-too- short stay in Cebu.
It came as no surprise that many of his friends and associates turned out to wish him Godspeed at the Latin-themed cocktail reception held at the grand ballroom of the Marco Polo Hotel. It also served to warmly welcome his successor Vickie Ning Yue.
Guests at the cocktails included Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and his wife Margot, Cathay Pacific country manager Vivian Lo, Waterfront Cebu Hotel and Casino general manager Marco Protacio, Shangri-La Mactan’s general manager Raymond Bragg and Cebu Pacific’s Agnes Gupalor.
Enjoying the fun fellowship were frequent flyers and top Marco Polo Club members such as Mary Anne Arculli, entrepreneur Benson Dakay, furniture maker Garrison Rousseau, and Evie Dionson.
They were joined by travel specialists Ricky Tio of Cebu Holiday Travel and Tours, Aida Uy of Fortune Travel, Cecile Saa of Blue Horizon, Marget Villarica of Destination Specialist, Sheila Colmenares of Leisure Travel, and Baby Dy of Grand Hope.
An upbeat dance number by the versatile and multi-talented Cebu CX team led by passenger sales supervisor Connie Cimafranca highlighted the celebration.
A graduate of bachelor of applied science from the University of British Columbia, Yue joined Cathay Pacific Airways on Sept. 2, 2002 as a management trainee, moving in the same year to the position of information management officer. She was then appointed as assistant to the country manager Philippines in August 2003 and stayed in Manila for a year before she moved back to Hong Kong as product officer. She has held several positions, among them as assistant manager for cargo planning and customer relations manager for development and strategy, before her current assignment to Cebu.
In closing, the Cebu staff presented Eddie Kong with a send-off caricature done by one of Cebu’s foremost sketch artists. Vickie Yue brought home a beautiful handmade beaded evening bag .Yue will be responsible for directing the operations of Cathay Pacific’s Cebu office and will be leading the team in maintaining its strength and position in the area.
With fond memories, we say farewell to Eddie Kong. With warm Cebuano hospitality, we extend our sincere welcome to Vickie Yue.
