Cebu Chamber awards outstanding journalists

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, one of the most well-respected and admired civic organizations in the city, recently inducted a new set of officers and directors at the Grand Ballroom of the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

The incoming office bearers include president Edward Gaisano, VP-finance and administration services Consul Samuel Chioson, VP-business development and management services, Jay Yuvallos, VP external affairs and relations Clarito Fruelda, VP membership and development Ed Limtingco, board secretary Benjamin Avila, treasurer Melanie Ng and legal counsel Deolito Alvarez.

Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) chairman, lawyer Miguel Varela was the guest of honor and speaker while PCCI vice president Edgardo Lacson performed the inducting ceremonies.

Also inducted that evening were committee chairmen for various CCCI divisions. They are Francis Monera for corporate governance, Gerry Sta. Ana for investment promotions, Lito Fruelda for legislative affairs and public relations and communications, Jose Soberano III for infrastructure, Nelson Bascones for trade missions, Felix Taguian for member benefits and services and Melanie Ng for special projects. The new members of the club are Debbie Dy of HSBC, Jun Saa of Robinland, Virgilio Carsido of Oceantown Properties and Mari Moya of Eastwood City.

Immediate past president Francis Monera of Cebu Holdings likewise conferred Presidential Awards to individuals who significantly contributed to the successful conduct of the chamber projects such as the annual Cebu Business Month, Adopt-a-School Program, Coffee Break, Conversations on Business Issues and ISO Trainings and Seminars.

Among the recipients of the Presidential Awards for their invaluable support in promoting the various programs and projects of CCCI in the print media were executive lifestyle editor of Freeman Mayen Tan, publisher of Cebu Daily News Eileen Mangubat, Aireen Seno of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and this writer for The Philippine STAR.

It is the Chamber’s earnest desire and goal to assist and facilitate the members’ needs with the end view of fostering Cebu business. The club continues to advance and protect the interest of the Cebuano business community through various programs, studies, advocacies, networking, researches, direct business matching, and other related endeavors.
