Cebu opens 2007 with grand parties

C‘EST CEBU - Honey Jarque Loop -
As expected, the festive months of December and January were packed, jammed, and crammed with a series of seemingly no-end events filled with cheer and laughter.

It was a pleasant mix of Cebu’s society and young executives who work hard and play even harder as Treff, the ultra-modern-just-reopened lounge at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel, played host to a full-of-fun party.

The evening’s entertainment featured the popular Manila-based DJ Cocoy Puyat who did an energetic performance that had guests swaying, singing, and dancing.

The drinks simply flowed and the picas, innovatively prepared by executive chef Andres Hallden, were savored con mucho gusto.

Attending to invitees were the property’s utterly charming and highly visible ladies, Renee Villasin, marketing communications manager for rooms, and Kaye Luym, marketing communications manager for food and beverage.

Bobby Joseph, founder of the National Association of Independent Travel Agents (NAITAS), celebrated his birthday in Cebu, his second home, where he holds the honor of being an adopted son of the city.

The intimate gathering was held at the beautiful hilltop home of travel specialist Jenny Franco.

The celebrant, who happens to be part owner of Ralph’s liquor store and chairman of Philippine Wine Merchants, brought the excellent wines.

Invitees included members of the association led by Jack and Cora O, Hyacinth Saavedra, Ricky Tio, Maris Araneta, Blue Viajar, Maritess Tatara, and ace photographer Daniel Carpentier.

The blowing of the birthday candles was not limited to only one cake but several, clearly evident that Bobby Joseph is cared for by his Cebuano friends.

One of the fiestas of the season was the Grand Wine Experience 2006, which brought an endless tasting of over 250 wines from 14 countries, matched with a sumptuous cuisine, held at the grand ballroom of the Cebu City Marriott Hotel.

The celebration of fine wines and culinary pleasures was made possible with the cooperation of L’Ordre Mondial Des Gourmets Degustateurs Bailliage Des Philippines headed by Michel Lhuillier.

Guests of honor were Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña; Ralph Joseph, president of Ralph’s Wines and Spirits; Department of Tourism director Dawnie Roa; Edna Diaz, president of Best World Beverage Brands; and Bess Ortiz, managing partner of Ralph’s and Spirits and Philippine Wine Merchants.
