Cathay Pacific Cebu names top travel partners

C‘EST CEBU - Honey Jarque Loop -
Several smiling ladies in colorful cheongsams greeted guests as they graciously ushered them into the Arctic Hall of the Cebu Waterfront Hotel, where Cathay Pacific Airways’ top honchos, led by country manager Mark Sutch and Cebu manager Lawrence Fong, warmly welcomed the island’s travel and tourism personalities for the much awaited airlines annual recognition celebration honoring their leading partners from the previous year.

The ballroom, artistically decorated with huge red lanterns, had a panoramic dramatic sketch of the majestic Great Wall of China, a fitting backdrop to the well-attended themed party that had Beijing as the focal destination.

Plaques of appreciation were given to deserving top awardees Margaret Ang and Marilou Pintor, who proudly received the citation on behalf of Grand Holidays. Other honorees were Marget Villarica of Destination Specialists, Aida Uy of Fortune Travel, Juanita Ongchoa of Uni Orient, Allan Carvajal of Travelways, Sheila Colmenares of Leisure Travel and Tours, Gwen Po of Pan Pacific Travel, Jeanne Teh of Global Link, Cecile Saa of Blue Horizons and Fairlie Uy of Royal Prince Travel.

The top cargo agents were recognized, as well. They were David Tieng of Geologistics, Inc., Lolit Yu of Orient Air, Lydia Agustin of Yusen Air, Harold Hess of ABX Panglobe and Okuneshi-san of Nippon Express.

A most welcome announcement by Sutch was the news of Cathay Pacific Airways’ daily non-stop flights from Hong Kong to New York, come July l. "This will be the only service of its kind between the two cities," he stated. "And with the existing stop over via Vancouver, Cathay Pacific will also be the only airline operating such services on this route."

The new development, which further enhances Hong Kong as a global hub, will offer passengers more choices, saving them approximately three hours on traveltime. It will likewise avoid the inconvenience of having their rest and sleep disturbed during an intermediary stop.

After a truly authentic sumptuous Chinese dinner, parlor games followed, much to the amusement and delight of the invitees, who were more than willing to join in the fellowship and win some fabulous gifts.

Special prizes of round trip tickets each for the best in costume were given to perennial winner Marlon Pastrana of Fortune Travel and Juanita Ongchoa of Uni Orient.

As the affair ended, Chinese calligraphy artist Ling Chay Lao etched the guests’ names in Chinese characters as a souvenir of a fun-filled evening.
