Blue Wave Complex: A leisure place by the bay

-
Riding on the wave of the popularity of leisure and entertainment facilities around Metro Manila, Federal Land Corp. recently opened Blue Wave Complex, a commercial complex that houses dining establishments and retail outlets.

The two-hectare Blue Wave sits on a 40-hectare property called Metropolitan Park, which is owned by Federal Land. The area is home to a Petron Mega Station, the residential condominium Bay Gardens, the Toyota Manila Bay showroom, a Metrobank branch, the Manila Doctors College set to open in June, and Le Pavilion, an activity venue, such as conferences, shopping markets and even grand weddings.

Among Blue Wave’s popular dining establishments are Pizza Hut, Jollibee, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Starbucks.

"The al fresco dining was like a magnet that attracted customers. The customers are arriving regularly to enjoy the novelty of open air dining," says Federal Brent Oil Corporation general manager Jerry Angchay.

Aside from the fast food joints, a mix of world-class restaurants occupy Blue Wave, including Plato Platina, an Italian restaurant whose cozy interiors add class to an intimate dining experience. The restaurant is owned by young couple Ced and Ces Ramirez, whose love for Italian food is obvious in Plato Platina. Its breakfast buffet, available daily from 6 a.m., at a reasonable P195, has attracted a growing list of clientele.

"We welcome these new and small-scale companies that have nice ideas about starting their businesses with us," says Angchay. Federal Brent Oil Corporation, a sister company of Federal Land, manages the operation of these establishments.

Other restaurants in the complex are the Japanese restaurant Kimono Ken, Congee House offering Chinese fare, Great Palate serving seafood specials, Different Twist Pretzel and AmeriCafe, and Hao Asian Fusion featuring Asian cuisine. Gerry’s Grill is also set to open a two-level dining area in the complex in the coming months.

Non-dining establishments present at Blue Wave are Proline, a sports retail shop, Fotografia photo studio, Ruiz Derma Salon, Bay Spa, PCL Yoo Han Travel and Smart Business Center.

Angchay says Blue Wave was conceptualized following the success of the Petron Mega Station at the Metropolitan Park, which has become a corner landmark in the area. It houses Pancake House, Chowking and the convenience and snack shop Treats.

The restaurants at Blue Wave face a patio called the Courtyard, which is an ideal venue for outdoor concerts and other activities. It also accommodates spillover diners when the restaurants lay out al fresco dining areas.

Angchay says benches will soon be installed around the patio to offer seating for patrons. "Anyone can go here and relax, enjoy their coffee and food, read a book while savoring the breeze, which comes from the sea," she adds.

Other establishments in the drawing board include Manila Doctors Hospital and a sports complex.

Opened only in December 2003, Blue Wave has become the newest stopover for motorists traveling the stretch of Roxas Blvd., before entering the Coastal Road or going south to Cavite and Laguna. The complex follows a Mediterranean design that is made attractive by the warm colors of the building.
